I started smoking at the age of 16 when I was in school. I’ve always enjoyed smoking. I’ve never really thought about quitting. When I was pregnant with my first child, I did try to quit by myself but I was on and off them throughout my pregnancy as I found it really difficult to stop completely.
I am currently pregnant with my second child and I am due around the end of January 2021. My midwife at Ormskirk Hospital referred me to the Knowsley Stop Smoking Service as I wanted to make a conscious effort to stop smoking during this pregnancy. With the help and support from my stop smoking advisor Deborah I’m pleased to say that I have managed to quit smoking completely. I have noticed a real difference since stopping and I’m really glad that I did it. I still work full time and I’m tired a lot but I know I have done the best thing by quitting smoking for me and my baby.
I plan to stay stopped once my baby is born. I will continue to receive the brilliant support from the Knowsley Stop Smoking Service throughout my pregnancy.
To any mums out there who are really struggling my tip would be to keep yourself busy and soon enough the craving will just pass.
