I started smoking at the age of 17. All my friends smoked so I did the same. I knew deep down I should never have started as I’ve suffered with Asthma and Bronchitis since a baby. In all honesty I’ve never really enjoyed smoking. Always found myself never actually inhaling the cigarette smoke. I did manage to stop smoking for 17 years, but sadly my dad passed away. I turned back to the cigarettes as a comfort. From that point I was on and off them for years but never actually stopped. I was diagnosed with COPD but still couldn’t quit completely.
In June of this year I was admitted to Whiston Hospital for a hip operation. It was the hospital who referred me into the Knowsley Stop Smoking Service. My stop smoking advisor Rita contacted me via the telephone. Through the brilliant help and support from Rita I haven’t touched a Cigarette since 2nd June 2020. My family are all so proud of me for stopping smoking including my 13 grandchildren. With the money I have saved from not smoking, I am able to save so I can have a proper holiday with the family when it’s safe to do so. I can’t wait. I can’t recommend the Knowsley Stop Smoking Service enough. My breathing is a lot better and I feel fantastic.
If I can do this anyone can. Thank you for all your support.
Donna’s Top Tip; I kept some tobacco and a few ciggy papers in a metal tin on top of the kitchen cupboard so I knew they were there if I needed them. I’ve never touched them but for me it helped with my anxiety of not having anything. It felt like a comfort blanket to me. Eventually sometime soon I will throw it all in the bin.
